I wanted to portray a story of this filmmaker and artist, now in his 80s, but still writing and with the energy of a younger man, still with a drive and desire to make more films, and further his own contribution to society and the film industry.

The painting depicts Fred, walking out the front door of his home in the hinterland of the Mornington Peninsula. His iconic blue hat in hand. A reassuring grin and a sparkle in his eye. An invitation to the viewer to join him on his next great adventure. But with a cheeky quip, from a quiet Australian larrikin that “you’re f’n late!’

(Thanks Fred)

About

Charlie’s artworks entwine the unbounded connection between nature, selfhood, kinship, and community. Predominantly portraying formed natural abstracts, the artist finds intimate stories through the metaphors of nature.
